Goodman Preventative CAP Capacitor Replacement SOP
Purpose:
Ensure every CAP capacitor is proactively replaced during any HVAC service
visit, documented properly, returned to Daikin within 30 days, and credited
under Daikin’s updated warranty process.
Key
Updates (Sept. 2025):
- Preventive CAP capacitor replacements are now
permitted by Daikin during routine maintenance or service visits.
- Credit will be issued for returned CAP
capacitors, even when replaced preventively (within warranty period).
- Registered equipment is covered for 10 years,
unregistered equipment remains 5 years.
- No purchase of replacement capacitors from
Daikin is required.
Step-by-Step
Procedure:
1. Eligibility Check (Dispatcher)
Confirm equipment model & serial number and
verify installation date.
Determine if unit is within:
5-year standard warranty or
10-year registered warranty (check registration
status in Daikin portal).
If outside of warranty, consult Branch Manager
before performing no-charge replacement.
2. Capacitor Verification (Tech)
Perform a visual inspection of the capacitor.
Verify that the capacitor’s part number begins
with "CAP". (See Picture)
3. Customer Communication
Explain that Daikin discontinued CAP capacitors
due to reliability concerns.
Inform them that Goettl replaces these capacitors
proactively to prevent breakdowns, and that this replacement is covered by
Goettl at no cost to them.
4. Pre-Replacement Documentation
Take Photo #1: Existing CAP capacitor in place
with part number clearly visible.
Record unit model & serial number in the
ServiceTitan invoice summary.
5. Replace Capacitor
Safely disconnect power, discharge capacitor, and
remove CAP capacitor.
Install an AmRad capacitor with matching
microfarad and voltage specs. (See Picture)
Take Photo #2: Installed AmRad capacitor showing
correct wiring.
6. Invoice Documentation
For preventive replacements, add item code CAP-RECALL
to the invoice.
For demand visits where the CAP capacitor was the
root cause, use the standard capacitor code. *This is a
billable repair.
In the ServiceTitan invoice summary, document:
“Preventive replacement of discontinued CAP
capacitor.”
Include model & serial number.
Upload both photos to ServiceTitan.
7. Return CAP Part
Label the CAP capacitor with the Job #.
Return to your Parts/Purchasing Manager within 7
days of job replacement.
*Payroll
will not process this task if the CAP is not documented or returned
properly.
8. Parts Manager Procedure
Verify part label and required photos are
attached to the job.
Log replacement in the CAP Tracking Sheet,
including:
Customer name & address
Unit model & serial
Job #
Replacement date
Preventive vs. Failure replacement
Hold failed capacitors in a designated area or
bin until ready for return.
9. Return to Daikin Branch
Consolidate failed capacitors weekly (or as
needed) and deliver to nearest Daikin branch.
Ensure each return includes tracking sheet or
copy of log with all unit details.
All returns must be completed within 30 days of
replacement to ensure credit.
10. Warranty Coordinator
Confirm Daikin branch has received parts and
filed claims in Warranty Express.
Record claim numbers and credit amounts in the
internal warranty log.
Follow up weekly until credits are approved and
posted to branch P&L.
