Backlog - Past and Future

Backlog - Past and Future

The backlog as a whole represents projected revenue based on scheduled jobs. In the Flash Report Backlog Tab, the backlog is broken down into two sections: future and past.

Future Backlog

The future backlog is just jobs that have been scheduled but have not been performed.
Since the Flash Report is one day behind (i.e. current as of yesterday), the days in the column headers for the future backlog represent the following:
  1. 1-2 days: is the backlog value that starts 1 day after yesterday and ends 2 days after yesterday.
  2. 3-5 days: is backlog that starts 3 Days after yesterday and ends 5 days after Yesterday
  3. 6-10 days: is backlog that starts 6 Days after yesterday and ends 10 days after Yesterday
  4. 11 days+: all black log values 11 days after yesterday

Past Backlog

The past backlog is a little more confusing. We said the backlog represents projected revenue based on scheduled jobs. This holds true. However, in the past backlog, those scheduled jobs were in the past--they just have not been marked as completed in ServiceTitan. As a result of their status (Hold, In Progress, or Scheduled) we can't yet count them as revenue. Maybe they are complete? Maybe they were canceled? Maybe they are on-going? We just don't know. These jobs do represent a break with normal process and we are actively trying to identify workflows which may cause this and reduce the number of jobs that fall into this category.
Since the Flash Report is one day behind (i.e. current as of yesterday), the days in the column headers for the past backlog represent the following:
  1. 1-2 days: is the backlog value that starts yesterday and ends 1 days before yesterday.
  2. 3-5 days: is the backlog value that starts 2 days before yesterday and ends 4 days before yesterday.
  3. 6-10 days: is the backlog value that starts 5 days before yesterday and ends 9 days before yesterday.
  4. 11 days+: all black log values 10 days before yesterday

In ServiceTitan, you can find the jobs that are part of the Past Backlog by looking for jobs with a last appointment before yesterday that are in a Hold, In Progress, or Scheduled status.
